Rick's Story
Rick Ator has spent over two decades building products and leading teams at some of the world's most innovative companies — including Adobe, Walmart, eBay, and Albertsons. He understands how to take complex problems and deliver real, measurable results.
But Rick isn't running on his resume. He's running because he sees the challenges facing District 9 every day — rising housing costs, aging infrastructure, public safety concerns — and he knows we can do better.

As a homeowner, neighbor, and community volunteer, Rick is deeply connected to the people and places that make D9 special. He's committed to transparent, accountable leadership that puts residents first.
My Key Issues
Public safety
District 9 residents expect police and fire to show up when they call. With a $65 million budget deficit looming, I'll fight to protect emergency services funding first — before anything else gets cut.
Urban planning and smart growth
District 9 needs more housing, but growth has to fit the community. I'll push to cut permitting delays and build smarter infill while making sure new development doesn't overwhelm our roads, schools, and neighborhood character.
Supporting Small Businesses
San Jose's small businesses are drowning in permitting delays and red tape. I'll use my tech background to cut through bureaucracy, streamline licensing, and make District 9 a place where local businesses can open faster and grow stronger.
